PERTH

BOORLOO is the 'NYOONGAR' name for Perth

Before the founding of the Swan River Colony, the indigenous Nyoongar people

were well established in the southwest corner of Western Australia

hunting and gathering.  They called the area on which Perth now stands, Boorloo.

Te Hana Kahu

Kia ora my name is Te Hana Kahu

I am from the West Coast of Taranaki - Ngāti Ruanui, born and raised in Ōtautahi Christchurch New Zealand.

I moved to Western Australia in 2016 and was quick to seek opportunities to maintain the connection to my culture and country. Through Mau Rākau I am able to strengthen my mind, body and spirit and keep that connection to my homeland and whānau in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

I am inspired by the eagerness of our youth, with guidance from Te Manawa Ora, Matua Malachi, Matua Pepe and Whaea Tat, and my whaanau support here in Te Urupu, we are able to provide space for Tauira from across the region to learn the skills and values under Te Whare Tū Taua o Aotearoa here in Noongar country, Perth.
